Below you will find a list of Frequently Asked Questions with the answers below.

Q: Why should I choose your office?

A: We like to think there are just too many reasons to put into writing.

One of the most common compliments our Doctors and staff receive from patients who have been to other Chiropractors, physical therapist or medical doctors; is that we are different and go beyond the standard adjusting techniques and help correct the problem. Whether it is muscular training, demonstrating before and after correction on x-rays, etc., many patients have never experienced putting many specialties of treatment all together under one roof.

Our Doctors believe that treatment should combine modern technology and traditional, hands-on care. It should be an ongoing partnership between you and us so that you can recover from pain and be healthy for life.
Our care goes beyond generic injury or pain remedies. We create customized treatments and rehabilitation plans that are also designed to help you maintain overall good health. And we help keep pain from coming back by teaching you how you can avoid injury in the future. Our specialty is helping bodies perform at their healthy best. Whether you need intensive rehabilitation after an auto accident or personal injury, quick recovery from a work or sports injury or ongoing treatment for a lingering condition, we'll do everything we can to get you back to your active life and keep you there.

Q: Can chiropractic help with arthritis pain?

A: There are two major types of arthritis: osteoarthritis and inflammatory arthritis.  Osteoarthritis is very common and can be found throughout the body.  It usually occurs in joints that are over-used or are injured at some point during your life.  Over time, the involved joint may become unstable.  The body's response is to restabilize the joint by laying down new bone.  Chiropractic care can not reverse this process.  Our goal is to help improve the movement and function of these joints so that you will experience less discomfort and greater interaction with those around you.

Inflammatory arthritis includes a variety of different conditions that tend to affect only certain joints.  This group includes Rheumatoid arthritis and Psoriatic arthritis among others.  These affected joints tend to become inflammed and very painful with greater rates of more significant changes.  Like osteoarthritis, chiropractic care can not cure inflammatory arthritis.  Our goal is to treat the involved joints during times of remission in order to help maintain a certain level of function.  It is also important to evaluate diet and nutritional aspects because diet modifications can help reduce the magnitude of these inflammatory processes.

Q:  What can you do about carpal tunnel?
A: Carpal tunnel is an all too common finding in today's work environment.  It usually occurs due to repetative motions with less than ideal ergonomics that causes compression of the median nerve.  Advanced Chiropractic's doctors are strong advocates for the conservative treatment of this condition and have had great success in its treatment. Drs. Parson and Summerkamp will assess the entire biomechanical chain from your hand all the way to your spine in order to fully understand and identify all of related causes.  This process is important because often times there are additional sites of compression or dysfunction that occur simultaneously with obvious symptoms in the hand.
Q:  Can you help with my foot pain or plantar fasciitis?
A: In short, yes.  Plantar fasciitis is the result of increased stress being applied within your foot.  The cause of these additional stresses can be found primarily in poor foot, ankle, and/or general lower extremity mechanics.  The prevalence of foot pain overall seems to have increased in the past few years ands seems to be correlated with the increased body weight and decreased activity levels that are becoming more prevalent in the United States. Often times custom orthotics are utilized in treatment plans in order to provide additional arch support while the foot becomes stronger and the mechanical abnormalities are addressed.
Q:  How do chiropractors help with headaches or migraines?
A:  A rather large number of causes exist for headaches.  However, the most common type of headache is the tension headache, which some publications indicate accounts for 95% of all headaches.  Tension headaches are most commonly a result of poor posture resulting in overactive muscles around the upper spine and head.  In other words, they exist in the world of chiropractic care.  Migraines fall in the group of vascular headaches and are usually triggered by specific irritants that vary base upon the individual.  Since the nervous system influences the vascular system, chiropractors can help this condition by allowing the nervous system to function at an optimal level.  In addition, certain changes in diet/nutrition can play an important roll in treating this condition.
Q:  Are chiropractors the right doctors to see about neck and back pain?
A:  Chiropractic care is the ideal fit for the treatment of neck and back pain.  Even though most chiropractors treat the entire body, we specialize in the treatment of the spine.  Advanced Chiropractic takes a truly advanced approach to spinal care by combining adjustments, soft tissue treatments, and specific exercises in order to get you out of pain and back into life.A number of independent and government sponsored studies have been performed in the last few years that clearly state that chiropractic care is the most cost effective approach to spinal complaints by a significant margin.
Q:  Can you help with restless leg syndrome?
A:  Restless leg syndrome is a condition that affects the nerves in the legs and is characterized by unpleasant sensations to occur.  These sensations may range from simply uncomfortable sensations to painful ones.  Approximately 50% of all RLS cases are idiopathic in nature, meaning the cause is unknown.  The other 50% are linked largely to pregnancy, mineral deficiencies (especially iron), and side-effects from various medications.  Certain common chemicals like caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco can trigger such symptoms in some individuals. Since chiropractic physicians have a strong influence on the nervous system and RLS is primarily linked to this system, treatment of the spine from a chiropractor may be able to aid in symptom relief.  In addition to this, counseling focused on triggers and nutritional deficits are a key component to treatment of this disease.
Q:  What about sciatic pain?
A:  The sciatic nerve is really two nerves (tibial and peroneal nerves respectively) that happen to runner together down the back of the thigh.  When pain occurs down the back of the leg, it is commonly referred to as sciatica.  There are a number of points in the lower back, pelvis, and leg that could be the cause of your sciatic type pain.  Advanced Chiropractic doctors are highly skilled in diagnosing the specific area of nerve irritation that is causing all of your complaints.  Just like other back complaints, sciatic pain is often the result of mechanical deficiencies in the lower back, hips, and legs.  As such, appropriate exercises and stretches should be included in any treatment plan.

Q:  I have nagging shoulder and arm pain, can you do anything for it?

A:  In most cases, the answer is yes we can.  The upper extremity, especially the shoulder area, is one of the most common areas of complaint we see.  These may range from nerve type arm pains from a herniated disc in the neck to bursitis.  Most of these injuries can be addressed by correcting movement patterns in order to remove the actual mechanism of the injury.

Shoulder injuries in athletes are just as common and usually require a more extensive assessment of biomechanics in order to fully address the problem.  Many health providers do not understand the link between upper extremity injuries and the rest of the body with an emphasis in the waist down to the feet.  Fortunately, the doctors as Advanced Chiropractic have extensive post-graduate training in this area.

Q:  It takes forever to get comfortable to sleep at night, why is that?

A:  This is a potentially complicated question because there could be many reasons related to your difficulty falling or staying asleep.  Having the appropriate environment to sleep is important.  This includes, but not limited to: a proper pillow, mattress, room temperature, darkness levels, and foods consumption.  These are all things a good doctor should address with you as things you can affect at home.

Now for your body.  Often times people struggle to get comfortable to sleep because their neck, back, or hips ache and keep them awake.  This pain/ache is a good indicator that your spine and pelvis should be evaluated by a trusted chiropractor.  Today's higher stress levels can make it difficult to relax at the end of the day and can actually alter your body's chemistry.  Because of this reason, supplementation may be indicated to help return your body chemistry to more acceptable areas.

Q:  Can you do anything about the symptoms I feel from stress?

A:  As previously mentioned, stress can alter your body's chemistry to the point that it can become difficult to sleep in addition to other common outcomes like increasing body weight.  Other common results of long standing stress include headaches, achy joints, and tight muscles.  These physical symptoms that manifest from stress can be address in our office in addition to recommendations for home.

Q:  Can you help with tennis elbow?
A:  Lateral Epicondylitis (a.k.a tennis elbow) is a condition experienced not just by athletes but by the every day person as well.  Simply put, tennis elbow is characterized by pain and inflammation around the attachment site of a good portion of your forearm muscles whose primary job is to extend your wrist.  Like carpal tunnel syndrome, lateral epicondylitis is largely the result of repetitive motions that over time stress this area.  Drs. Parson and Summerkamp focus on reducing the stress applied to this area to let the tissues heal while correcting any faulty muscle patterns in order to gain longer lasting results.

Q:  What techniques do you use?

A:  Advanced Chiropractic doctors utilize a variety of techniques that are specially selected for each particular patient's needs.  They include, diversified, Activator Technique, Thompson drop table, Cox flexion-distraction, Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP), and Motion Palpation.  To compliment the adjustments, the doctors incorporate soft tissue treatments and problem focused rehabilitation exercises.
