Children also benefit from regular spinal exams!
It seems children never run out of energy, they go all day long running, jumping, and playing hard. Sometimes all this physical activity puts stress on the spinal nerves; this may lead to lowering a child’s resistance and open the door for many illnesses.
The slightest misalignment can cause a child to suffer from adult type problems, such as headaches, back pain, poor concentration, irritability, etc. and for many, a simple, painless spinal exam will allow your Chiropractor to find, and treat if necessary any misalignments. One of the most common childhood complaints is that of recurring ear infections. More and more research is demonstrating the negative effects of antibiotic use and tubal insertions as the primary treatment. Many children are successfully helped with Chiropractic care!
Chiropractic Care for children is much more than just spinal exams. Your Chiropractor can also examine and monitor the growth of your child’s body, address important nutritional needs, offer correct exercise programs, and help to prepare your child for a healthy adulthood.
LOW BACK PAIN AND THE “Backpack” Syndrome Nearly everyone has low back pain sometime. Men and women are equally affected. It occurs most often between ages 30 and 50, due in part to the aging process but also as a result of sedentary life styles with too little (sometimes punctuated by too much) exercise. The risk of experiencing low back pain from disc disease or spinal degeneration increases with age. Low back pain unrelated to injury or other known cause is unusual in pre-teen children. However, a backpack overloaded with schoolbooks and supplies can quickly strain the back and cause muscle fatigue. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that more than 13,260 injuries related to backpacks were treated at doctors’ offices, clinics, and emergency rooms in the year 2000. To avoid back strain, children carrying backpacks should bend both knees when lifting heavy packs, visit their locker or desk between classes to lighten loads or replace books, or purchase a backpack or airline tote on wheels. Remember, keeping an eye on your children’s spinal health early can and always will lead to less problems as the adolescent and teen years creep up on them. At Advanced Chiropractic we believe in starting a child with chiropractic care from infancy. A healthy spine today means a healthier adult in the future for your children, no matter their current age.Warning signs a backpack is too heavy: - Change in posture when wearing the backpack.
- Struggling when putting on or taking off the backpack.
- Pain when wearing the backpack.
- Red marks.
- Tingling or numbness.
